Our Background

Who we are

Glen Behr – Co-founder & owner of Hands on Nature, Kenya. Group leader.

Glen is a proud fourth generation Kenyan, who grew up in the East African bush. One of two children, he spent his earlier years living on the Delamere Sanctuary, exploring, caring for sick and abandoned animals, cutting tracks and undertaking game control during school holidays alongside his father. At 19, Glen helped with the well-known Cottars realm in the Masai Mara. After leaving school, he went to Tanzania where he was taken under the wing of Alex Walker, helping to set up camps for his hunting safari business. After which he decided to concentrate on guiding, conservation and photography. On his return to Nairobi, Glen was hugely successful in mechanics along with motorsports. He is a four time Kenya National Champion in various motorsports disciplines.

Glen's passion and love for Africa's wildlife drew him back into the bush; he took up a full time career as a professional safari guide in 2007 and founded Africa Endorsed alongside his father in October 2009. In 2013, he married his long-term partner Michelle, Glen left Africa Endorsed (although continues to assist Africa Endorsed when they need a second guide), they moved out of Nairobi to live in Laikipia, in Northern Kenya. Glen has an extensive knowledge of Africa - from mammals to reptiles, insects to flora and fauna and the tribes of East Africa. He enjoys learning and sharing his knowledge with all age groups in particular children. Glen passed his bronze Kenya Professional Guides Association examination and is a keen photographer. Glen has a first aid certificate in trauma.

Michelle Behr – Co-founder & owner of Hands on Nature, Kenya. Group assistant & Office administrator.

Michelle was born and raised in Kenya. She grew up in ‘the big city’ Nairobi and spent most of her school holidays at her family home in Malindi along the Kenyan coast. She completed a secretarial course and has worked in administrative positions for over ten years.

Michelle didn’t spend much time in the bush but always had animals in her life. After meeting Glen over 16 years ago, her passion for nature and conservation grew and an overwhelming desire to live in the bush saw them move to Laikipia in 2013. Now happily living there, she has Glen to thank for igniting her interest in nature and the environment. She loves watching the passion and spark in Glen when he is talking about anything to do with nature.

Michelle loves being around children of all ages and enjoys watching them learn and explore the outdoors.
